HOW TO BE A WILDLIFE FRIENDLY VILLAGE

Our Vision is that other villages, streets, estates, towns and cities will become Wildlife Friendly Places and that Our Wild Areas will link up with Your Wild Areas: creating Nature Recovery Networks around the length and breadth of Britain.  All you need to do is contact your Local Government and ask them if you can be part of creating Wild Areas where you live on Public and Private Land.  You can do this by:

CONTACTING LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Every individual has the ability to motivate others and inspire true change. Your Parish Council, District Council, County Council are ready to listen to you.  All you need to do is contact them and tell them you would like to have areas where you live, managed for Wildlife.  Our Parish Council were very supportive and our District Councillor gave us £730 for the project at the start of 2020.

CREATING A LOCAL WILDLIFE WORKING GROUP

We advertised in our Parish Magazine that we wanted to help wildlife in our village.  People from around the village contacted us and together decided where we wanted to put our wild areas.  Before Lockdown we met up as a group to create & maintain the spaces together.

INSPIRING YOUR COMMUNITY

Each month we have an article published in our local Parish Magazine, written by our Wildlife Working Group Members to inspire people to take action on their own private land.  Before Lockdown we were running free monthly workshops for villagers to attend which supported the article.  We have inspired people to: build a Bumble Bee Habitat, plant Wildflowers, not Mow Their Lawns, look out for Hedgehogs and much more!
